About The Back Half of Gratitude Hour
My mom read my diary front to back when I was 16. She read about my first time having sex, my disdain for social media, how getting high made me feel and the number of times I had been so in the past month, she learned my first alcoholic drink was a Mike’s Hard Lemonade at 12 and that I wanted blue hair and real friends.
It forced me to stop writing for a while but 11 years later, I found myself with five diaries chock full of every minuscule detail of my feats in love and loss across all forms — romantic, friendship, familial and more.
The Back Half of Gratitude Hour is my weekly musings on love, dating, relationships, friendships, work, life and all things womanhood. You’ll find past reflections of my diary entires — everything from break ups on park benches, food poisoning on first dates, drunken fights with my mom, blackout texts I wish I never sent, lessons from my grandma, shortcomings of my own to an eventual stumbling into self love.
Monday Minis are my reminder to stay present. It’s my weekly recap that forces me to spend some more time in thought about the things that make life full — the things that make me laugh, cry or surprisingly feel nothing at all.
My work has appeared in The Chill Times, DoSomething.Org, and The Quality Edit.
I’m working on my debut novel, Thank You For Reading My Diary. You can also find me talking about my personal life on the internet @maggiesdigitaldiary.
